History: Helen Richardson was a realtor for Wolverton Kendrick, selling houses in the Wimbledon and Collier's Wood area. She'd held her job for eight years and appears to have been in good standing with her employer -- but that changed in September or late August 2016. A strange man turned up to her showing of a family home on Saint Albans Avenue, informing her that since her expected appointment could not make it, he would take their place. It was not the first time Helen had given a showing to one of a rich person's 'people', so she began to give him the normal tour. On the second floor landing, however, they encountered a strange, yellow door -- a door that Helen did not recall seeing before, even though she'd been up and down those stairs all day.
The strange man asked her what was on the other side, and she opened the door. Immediately Helen found herself lost in a bizarre, disorientating maze, one that kept her trapped for -- she would discover later -- three days. When she had begun to grow dizzy from lack of food and water she spotted a terrifying, distorted figure with sharp, bulbous hands off in the distance, stalking towards her. With no more obvious route of escape available, she threw herself into an empty mirror, and found herself free but badly traumatized.
Seeking relief from the nightmares that plagued her, Helen told her story to Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of The Magnus Institute. In a radical departure from his season 1 skepticism, Jon told her that he believed her, and promised to look into it -- but before he could a new door appeared in his office, and took Helen back into its maze. Neither of them even realized the danger that she was in until it was all over.
Trapped within the maze, she was surely slowly and painfully digested by the Distortion, until it decided to use her as its new mouthpiece when the old one grew too emotional and difficult to control. But perhaps in Pumpkin Hollow, she'll find a better fate.
Personality: Helen was said to have 'lied to real estate clients, was a bit of a prick at parties, and was secretly a Tory,' but the source of this description is hardly an unbiased source. She is badly rattled when she gives her statement to Jon, and desperate for any kind of assistance he can give. It's hard to tell what she was like beneath all that terror -- although when the Distortion takes on her face and name, it presents itself as a cheerfully sadistic 'customer service' persona, offering assistance with strings attached. For a time it professed to feel guilt and discomfort over the people it had to kill to maintain its existence -- but eventually this fell by the wayside and was forgotten.
Initial Game Plan: I wouldn't say I dislike the direction canon took with the Helen Distortion, but it made me very sad to see her lose her humanity. I'd like explore her response to trauma as a human being and give her a chance to make her own decisions about what side of the victim/monster line she'll fall onto; to that end I've already made some plans for CR with Jeff and other Spiral-aligned PCs, and I'm looking forward to bouncing her off people to see what sticks.
RP Interests: Labyrinth moment with Jeff at Dahlia's birthday ball; being Spirally; processing trauma.
Preferred Job: This woman deserves a holiday, if she can stand to take it.
NSFW-friendly?: Yeah!
